The Department of Criminal Law and Criminology

The Department of Criminal Law and Criminology of the Faculty of Law at Qom University was established aiming of training a generation of lawyers, judges and jurists in Iran and the world, especially the Islamic world, and so far the department   has succeeded in training many  students who are  working at the present time as judges and lawyers and legal professionals in the country. 

The department of criminal law and criminology started admissions of post graduate students including the following majors:

1- Criminal law and criminology - master's degree: began the student admission   in 1995

2- Criminal law and criminology – PhD level - began the student admission in 2008

3- Criminal law and criminology - master's degree - began the admission of international students in 2020

4- Criminal law and criminology – PhD level - began the admission of international students in 2020

This department has two specialized journals, which are titled by the "Journal of Criminal Law of Islamic Countries" in Farsi language whose editor-in–chief is Dr. Abolfath Khaleghi and its managing editor is Dr. Ruhollah Akrami, as well as the "Journal of Legal Issues of Islamic Countries" in Arabic language (مجله الا بحاث القانونیه للدول الإسلامیه) whose editor-in–chief is Dr. Khairullah Parveen and its managing editor is Dr. Morteza Fat’hi.

This department has been able to participate in various national and international meetings and conferences with the presence and presentation of professors of the department, including Dr. Abolfath Khaleghi, the late Dr. Qorbania, Dr. Mohammad Ali Hajidehabadi, Dr. Jalaluddin Qiyazi, Dr. Mohammad Khalil Salehi,And Dr. Adel Sarikhani.

Among these conferences it is worth mentioning the” Civil Rights Conference”, “ the Right to Life and Euthanasia conference, the” Social Security Plan Review Conference”, and the ”Conference on Economic Criminal Rights (Money Laundering Crimes) with the cooperation of the judges in charge of money laundering cases and  investigating the money laundering crimes.

Among  the honors and successes of this department  the remarkable study and research activities of the department  faculty members can be mentioned  which include: publication of more than 507 scientific research articles in national and international journals and the presentation of many of these articles in national and international conferences by the faculty members of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology and also writing and publication of numerous specialized books in the fields of criminal law and criminology are among these activities . The selection of the country's best academic book for Dr. Jalaluddin Qiyazi's book titled by” criminal policy “which  received  numerous awards, as well as the selection of Dr. Adel Sarikhani's book titled by “ Crimes Against Security” as the best academic book along with valuable awards are out of  these honors and also the books under the title of “Criminal Sociology” and “Applied Criminology” by Dr. Hajidehabadi and many other top books and articles have been authored  by the academic staffs of the department. The academic staffs of this department have been also selected as top researchers, professors and exemplary managers by the university many times.
