The past year marked the beginning of significant transformations in University of Qom
In his congratulatory message for the New Year, Hojat al-Islam Dr. Ahmad Hossein Sharifi, the President of Qom University, presented a report on the University's activities in the past year and outlined the plans for the upcoming year.
According to the News Department of Qom University, Dr. Sharifi stated: "With greetings and respect to the Almighty, I pray for a year full of goodness and blessings for everyone. In our belief, the past year was the start of significant transformations in the University, and several positive and promising initiatives were carried out by the University Administrators in various areas."
He added: "In the field of education, two new faculties, namely the Faculty of Strategic Sciences and the Faculty of Architecture and Islamic Urbanism, were established. The Faculty of Strategic Sciences is actively and promisingly engaged, and, God willing, it will admit students in four disciplines at the postgraduate level starting from this September. However, the Faculty of Architecture and Islamic Urbanism did not progress as expected, and we hope that its ideals will be realized with the appointment of a new responsible person in charge of the Faculty in the New Year. Nevertheless, some actions were taken regarding the Faculty, and several Faculty Members were recruited. We hope that more vigorous efforts will be pursued this year."
Dr. Sharifi further stated: "Another Faculty, named Food Industries and Animal Sciences, was pursued in collaboration with the esteemed officials of Jafariyeh City in Qom. Its preliminaries have been accomplished, and God willing, it will be established in the New Year. Additionally, new disciplines were established in the University. New curricula were developed for Master's and Bachelor's Degrees by the experts of Qom University and integrated into the Higher Education System of Iran. Examples of such disciplines are 'Islamic Philosophy for Children' and 'Practical Wisdom' at the Bachelor's Level."
The President of Qom University continued: "In the field of Education, numerous actions have been taken, and it is hoped that the relevant authorities will provide a detailed report on them. In the Research field, extensive and very promising measures have been taken, and new Research Centers have been established under the titles of (1)Islamic Sciences, Comparative Studies, Islamic Philosophy, with two sections ofComparative StudiesandComparative Theology, and an (2)International Resistance Research Center. Some have already yielded results, and others will flourish in the New Year. Good agreements have been made in the area of community-industry relations by theResearch and Technology Vice Presidencyof the University, and numerous research events have been formed within the University by the esteemed Faculty Members. New journals have been established as well."
He added: "Theinternationalizationof the University is being pursued seriously and rigorously. Currently, Qom University is the most internationalized university in Iran according to the standards of the international Times Higher Education rankings. It has 3,030 students from 30 nationalities studying at the University, which all indicate a bright horizon in the internationalization of Science and Research with a focus on the Holy City of Qom. In the Industrial Sector, particularly in the Provincial industries, significant measures have been taken and will be vigorously pursued. In the area of Student Affairs, the relevant officials have spared no effort and are actively engaged in solving problems and providing services to ourdearstudents.
Dr. Sharifi stated: "We are witnessing significant transformations in administrative and University development matters. The University Officials have managed to provide tenmarried students housing unitslast year, and four moreunitswere established by donations from benefactors. Currently, 150unitsare operational, and it is hoped that by the end of the year 1403, students could accommodate all these 150units. We are also striving to initiate another 150 units and reach a total of 300married students housing units. In the cultural field, commendable services have been provided, and we are grateful to all cultural service providers. Qom University was recognized by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology as the Country’s Safest University in terms of social harms, and in the past year, excellent cultural programs were held at this University.
The President of Qom University explained: "In the Female Section, we are witnessing fundamental transformations, including the establishment ofdining halls, Zainabiyyah, andwelfare and sports facilitiesin the female dormitories and campuses. Although the University is not without weaknesses, we are striving to minimize these weaknesses through scientific analysis and strengthen ourselves to servethe dear studentsof the University in the best possible ways. Any transformative move for its sustainability and fruition requires the participation of all departments, officials, and students of the University, and without any of these, it will not reach the desired outcome. Qom is a City from which Islamic sciences and all sciences should be disseminated tothe world. Therefore, to achieve these goals, we must all work hand in hand with each other to serve the academic community and students in the best possible ways."
