An Introduction to the  Department of Arabic Language and Literature

Certainly, the goal of learning any language, including Arabic language is to create a connection between two different cultures and civilizations. Arabic language education, which aims to transfer the Arabic-Islamic literary, cultural and civilizational heritage to Persian language and communicate with the speakers   of this language, has a long history in Iran. Iranian peoples have known the importance of this issue for a long time and have followed this path. Due to the development of communication in recent years, the society's need for Arabic language has highly   increased. Moreover, due to the expansion of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Arab countries, this necessity has increased significantly. In addition to these issues, Iran’s  supreme leader's emphasis on the economic growth which is partially based on exports, has  caused  different Arabic language departments to be established to train people who can introduce the products of industrial companies in different Arab countries and also have skills in writing contracts in Arabic.

1-A History of the Arabic Language and Literature Department

The department of Arabic language and literature in Qom university started its educational activities in 1995 and has a history of more than 25 years in the field of training experts  . In addition to having a talented scientific staffs, this department has been teaching students at the master's level for many years, and so far hundreds of students have graduated from this department .In the meantime, we have some achievements, such as translating more than 50 books from Arabic into Persian, and writing more than 60 theses on the subjects of Quran and Hadith translation studies.

2- Qom University Importance in Terms of Arabic language

Qom University is located next to Qom seminary and is known as   a central and pivotal university in Qom province, which is in the center of attention, and as a result, the department of Arabic language and literature is also very important for those interested in Arabic language.

3- The job opportunities related to Arabic language and literature

Certainly, one of the main concerns of the officials and directors of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Qom University pay a lot of attention to the working conditions in this field for learners and student .The vital questions is: Does spending so much money on the Arabic language course help our society? In response to this question, the following   points are mentioned:

3-1- The Field of Tourism

With the development of Iran's capabilities in various fields of tourism such as religious fields, a large number of Arab tourists will travel to Iran for pilgrimage and tourism. Touristic, historical and religious centers and monuments in different cities, including Qom and Mashhad, certainly need translators who can establish communication between these centers with Arab tourists. It has happened many times that communication with tourists has become difficult due to the lack of translation staffs.

3-2- The Field of Providing Medical Services

Every year, a large number of Arab citizens from different neighboring countries will come to Iran to receive medical services because of the low medical expenses   compared with other countries. Currently, the Iraqi Red Crescent plays an active role in this field, and based on some information, it has been determined that these Iraqi patients need expert translators who can communicate in the medical field in order to receive medical services. If their problem is not resolved, it may affect their decision to choose another country for medical treatment.

3-3- The Field of Economic Relations

Due to the extensive political relations between Iran and some Arab countries including Iraq, a wide range of businessmen will come to Iran to buy Iranian goods. If these businessmen have problems communicating with their Iranian partners, it will have a negative impact on their economic business and  decisions.

4.3. The Field of Teaching Arabic Language and Literature

Among the most important centers for teaching Arabic language and recruitment of graduates of this field, the following can be mentioned:

Ministry of Education.(Including: elementary, middle and   high schools)

Private institutions and centers which  are interested in teaching Arabic language.

Different academic fields including: Arabic language and literature, Arabic translation majors, Quran and Hadith sciences, Islamic jurisprudence and fundamentals of law, law, Persian language and literature, etc...

Other centers for recruiting Arabic language graduates include the following:

Official judicial translator and obtaining a license to establish an Arabic translation office.

Translator in embassies of Arab countries, ministries of the country, as well as translator and cultural consultant in Hajj and pilgrimage organization.

Working in the offices of newspapers, publications, magazines and cultural and research institutions, as a translator and researcher.

Translation of Arabic texts and books.
